Napoli have been in talks with Osimhen to sign a new deal for months, but it appears there has been a breakthrough

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is close to signing a new deal at Napoli, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen has arguably been one of the best players at Napoli in the last two years. The 24-year-old hitman scored 31 goals in 39 appearances for the Partenopeans last season to help them to their first Scudetto in 33 years and their first-ever UEFA Champions League quarterfinal finish.

Following his impressive displays, Osimhen has been linked with some of the top clubs in Europe, with Chelsea, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and PSG all in the mix.

However, Napoli held their ground and refused to sell. Instead, they opened contract extension talks with the Nigerian forward as his contract is set to expire at the end of next season.

However, since Napoli started talks with Osimehn, both parties have not reached a compromise.

The recent fracas between Osimhen and Napoli following the video that was posted on TikTok to mock him did not also help matters.

However, it appears both parties have not put all the issues behind them, as Napoli president De Laurentiis has revealed that Osimhen is close to extending his deal at the club.

“We are at the signing stage of the new contract we’ve offered last summer,” De Laurentiis said, per Fabrizio Romano.

Nonetheless, if Osimhen signs a renewal, it is unlikely that he will remain at the club beyond next summer due to the number of clubs looking for his signature.
