Everton has been handed a 10-point deduction by an independent commission, immediately impacting their Premier League standing. This penalty results from a violation of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. Before incurring this points deduction, Everton occupied the 14th position, maintaining an eight-point buffer from the relegation zone.

Everton is set to file an appeal against the 10-point deduction imposed by an independent commission for violating the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

The club, expressing shock and disappointment, has 14 days to submit the appeal, after which it will be reviewed by an independent appeals commission, featuring different members from the original panel. Everton contests the severity of the sanction, deeming it an unfair reflection of the evidence presented.

The unprecedented 10-point deduction, the largest in Premier League history, immediately placed Sean Dyche’s team in the relegation zone. During a five-day hearing, Everton admitted breaching the league’s profitability and sustainability rules, with the commission finding their calculated loss at £124.5m, surpassing the £105m threshold permitted by the PSRs.

Before the deduction, Everton, who narrowly avoided Championship relegation last season, held the 14th position in the current league table, maintaining an eight-point safety margin above the bottom three.

This penalty is significant, with only three instances of point deductions in Premier League history: Middlesbrough (3 points) in 1996/97 for fixture non-fulfillment, Portsmouth (9 points) in 2009/10 for entering administration, and Tottenham (12 points, later reduced) in 1994/95 for financial irregularities from previous seasons.
