Manchester United secure the signings of De Ligt and Mazraoui from Bayern Munich

Manchester United have completed the signing of Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, with the deal potentially reaching close to £60 million.

De Ligt has committed to Manchester United with a five-year contract, while Mazraoui has signed a four-year deal, both featuring an option for a one-year extension.

Mazraoui might be thrust into action right away, filling in at left-back for the injured Luke Shaw, who is expected to be sidelined until after the first international break. United will face Fulham in the Premier League this Friday (20:00 BST).

United has agreed to a deal worth £38.5 million, with an additional £4.3 million in potential add-ons, for the 25-year-old centre-back De Ligt. De Ligt, who previously captained Erik ten Hag’s Ajax team to the 2019 Champions League semi-finals, is well-acquainted with his new manager’s style.

Mazraoui, who also played under Ten Hag at Ajax, emphasized the manager’s influence on his development.

“Erik ten Hag was instrumental in the early stages of my career, and he knows how to bring out the best in me. I’m eager to work with him again,” said De Ligt.

“I understand what it takes to excel at the highest level, and I’m committed to continuing that success at this iconic club.”

Mazraoui added, “Reuniting with Ten Hag as I enter the prime of my career is thrilling. I know what he demands from his players, and I’ll do everything I can to help the team achieve success.”

Moroccan defender Noussair Mazraoui, 26, has been signed by Manchester United for an initial fee of £12.8 million, with the potential for an additional £4.3 million in performance-related add-ons.

Mazraoui’s transfer to United was made possible after the departure of defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who completed a £15 million move to West Ham on Tuesday.

Manchester United had previously pursued Everton’s English international Jarrad Branthwaite, but after having two bids rejected this summer, they turned to De Ligt as an alternative option to bolster their defense.

De Ligt is viewed as a more cost-effective choice, offering greater experience compared to Branthwaite. Everton remained firm on their £70 million valuation for Branthwaite, leading United to opt for De Ligt instead.
